Every hotel housekeeper must be fully familiar with the layout of the hotel. This includes a full understanding of the layout of each room which are all unique and have particular features and décor. Head of Housekeeping will not only perfect the highest of standard on room servicing, but also ensure the precise cleaning protocols are undertaken by the housekeeping staff – ensuring spot checks on random aspects of the room servicing procedures.

The housekeeping staff will be fully conversant with the whole layout of the hotels including learning the locations of the laundry and kitchen areas. Each housekeeper will receive a tour of the hotel as part of their hotel training.

Housekeepers will need to be able to communicate with guests in the right way. To answer guests’ questions, they will need to be familiarised with the hotel. A housekeeper is typically provided with a uniform, however, they will need to know the dress code and present the 5 star experience in their appearance at all times. Conduct and dress code training is mainly about being respectful and courteous.

Each hotel has its own cleaning and disinfection policies. Training will be available to assist housekeepers in learning how to handle hazardous materials. The staff will be taught how to clean hazardous materials and what chemicals should be used. This training will usually be hands-on and will include a more experienced housekeeper who will demonstrate the techniques to new staff.

    Lost and Found Procedures

The hotels have a lost-and-found area that stores the items until the guest retrieves them. For more valuable items like jewellery, management staff can contact the guest directly. The lost and found policies should be followed by housekeeping staff. They should not attempt to return an item directly unless instructed.

    Inventory

Every hotel housekeeper must keep a detailed count of all inventory used on a daily and weekly basis. You will be trained on the inventory that you will need and what to do if inventory is lost, damaged or stolen. These items include towels, washcloths, pillows, blankets, bathrobes, sheets, room enhancements, hangers. You will be trained on how to fill in inventory forms and maintain checklists for each room.

It isn’t an easy job to do hotel housekeeping. Even the most experienced housekeeper will find some tips and shortcuts that make their day go a little more smoothly.

The bathroom is the most difficult room to clean. This is the room that’s the most messy and requires the most attention. Next, its’s the beds. It can be tedious for just one person. This is why many hotels employ two people to make one room. Ask for tips if you’re doing it yourself. Since they are the most time-consuming tasks in the room, vacuuming and dusting should be done last.

A room’s finishing touches can make it feel more comfortable and homey for its occupants. Toss pillows and organize your dresser, but don’t move any personal items. The morning and afternoon sun can shine on freshly cleaned surfaces if you open the blinds. A housekeeper can leave a brief note to let occupants know that the surfaces were cleaned and have been replaced.

The most important tip for hotel housekeepers is to smile. Smiles can be infectious and show that housekeepers are reliable and friendly. Trustworthiness is a sign that a housekeeper will be trustworthy and more likely to tip. Trust is built by smiling. This is especially important when cleaning the rooms of hotel guests. Smile big, even on your worst day. It could make you feel better.

Make sure your cart is organized so you can easily find sheets, towels, and cleaning supplies. You will be able to organize your room quickly by knowing where everything is. As you move from one room to another, make sure it is organized.

To avoid dangerous fumes and burns, it is essential to be aware of the chemicals you are working with. This is especially important for pregnant women. To avoid injury, bend over and lift heavy objects such as mattresses, dressers, or chairs with your knees. Finally, be sure to clean out the toilet and bathroom areas as they are breeding grounds for bacteria and germs. For added safety, always wear gloves.

Respect your guest’s privacy and don’t touch or move items that are sentimental, expensive or valuable. Respect the guest’s privacy by cleaning up the room quickly and quietly. Respecting guests can result in larger tips for the housekeeper over the long-term, but it is also important to ensure they have a pleasant stay.

Although it may not be the most glamorous job, being a housekeeper is essential and important. You are an asset to the success of your hotel or home. Take pride in what you do. You will be able to work harder and perform well, which can lead to a better day or rapid advancement.
